Deveaux Bank Conservation Fund

Deveaux Bank Conservation Fund

Deveaux Bank is the largest of the five rookery islands on the South Carolina coast, offering a protected spot along the Atlantic flyway for seabirds and shorebirds to nest, feed and rest. This island has acted as an ephemeral near-coastal landscape, historically gaining and losing ground from year-to-year. Unfortunately, current rising water levels coupled with coastal storms have put it on a precipitous decline. The December 18, 2023 Nor'easter effectively leveled Deveaux Bank, severely limiting successful nesting potential until work is done to repair the island.

The Coastal Expeditions Foundation is seeking donations to fund the coastal process engineering and an environmental impact study to allow Deveaux Bank to be permitted and let out for bid by a capable contractor. Help us reach our goal of $200,000 to protect this important seabird nesting island.
